Happy Easter 2014

easter

I love having two girls.  I know if I had a boy I would love having him too… but there is just something so sweet about sisters.  Amelia is THE BEST big sister, she’s involved but not overly interested, affectionate but not smothering and loves to entertain Juliet.  And Juliet is the best baby… so so sweet.  I let Amelia try on her Easter dress and snapped a few pics of them in a field of “flowers.”  : )

There aren’t many newsletter emails I take the time to read, but the ones from Houzz almost always have something interesting that takes me to their site. A few weeks ago I was enticed to browse through the images of this Lake Wisconsin house designed by de[luxe] design studio. Love the woods, planking, white and neutrals, as always. : )

You’re probably aware that I kinda love Minted, the cutest site ever for printed goods and now much much more.  I have used Minted in the past for Juliet’s birth announcements and these adorable back-to-school calendars.  I love browsing their website from time to time to check out their new products and recently came across kids’ room signs!  I let Amelia pick out the one she wanted and of course she chose a mermaid… she also thought the flower sign would look perfect in Juliet’s room.  I think she was right!

Well… I’ve been MIA lately due to several factors.

  1. Family time and having baby Juliet and big sister Amelia demanding most of my time
  2. Wedding season has started back up for our photography business, therefore I devote most of my free time to catching up on editing
  3. We have started an exciting renovation project for our future home!

My parents live in a small section of our town, I guess technically it is its own town, but it’s part of Sebastian?  Anyway, it’s called Roseland and it’s just outside the city limits.  I lived in the house my parents’ still live in since I was 4 years old until I went to college.  I loved living on almost 1.5 acres in a unique spot.  I love our house in Sebastian that my Dad built but have always wanted to find a place in Roseland.

I had been noticing a house around the corner from my parents’ for awhile and asked my Dad about it since it looked vacant.  He did some investigating and tracked down the owner whose aunt previously owned it and willed it to him.  He was in the middle of some health issues so he said to get back with him in a few months.  Fast forward and after talking with my Dad, he decided to sell the 2.6 acres and very run down home to my Dad for a great deal.  My Dad is a general contract so he knew it would take quite a bit to fix it up to our liking but the deal of the land was too good to pass up.  My parents purchased the property with the intent of co-designing and fixing it up and subsequently selling it to us once it’s complete.

Sooooo, there you go!  The house is currently down to the studs and my Dad’s crew works on it between the other busy jobs he has going.  There isn’t a huge rush or timeline, but we hope to move into it this fall/winter.  As for our current house, we have it For Sale by Owner on Zillow just to see what happens.  We’ve had some interest and have showed it a few times but no formal offers yet (although they have all requested to hire me as their designer, should I take that as a sign to start up a full service design business?)

I’m going to document the renovation process on here in between regular posts, so if you’re interested check back often! : )

Valentine’s Day Outfit

February 12, 2014 — 1 Comment

I saw this cutie heart dress and knew it’d be the perfect piece for a What to Wear Wednesday post. I love wearing blazers over a dress with a narrow cute belt. You could even add tights to this ensemble. Sure it’s a little cliche with a love purse and heart ring, but that goes right along with the Valentine’s Day theme, right? : )

While my faaavorite thing ever is being a mama to my sweet little girls, every once in awhile I jones for an uninterrupted dinner with people who don’t ask for chocolate milk refills in the middle of the meal.  I saw these photos (by Lauren Rae Photography) on The Perfect Palette and thought what a fab Valentine’s Day themed dinner party this little set up would make.  Make sure to check out the original blog post for the credits and way more photos.  Cue the champagne!

Valentine’s Day Gift Guide

February 10, 2014 — 1 Comment

Time’s a tickin’… it’s almost Valentine’s Day!  One part of me thinks this holiday is a bit ridic… but the other part of me looks forward to receiving a thoughtful gift.  Here are some ideas for cute gifts any lady might like. : )

valentine's day gift ideas, valentines day presents for her, girl valentine gifts, thoughtful valentine gifts, vero beach stylist, vero beach designer, cute and company

1) A thoughtful art print with a lovely “You Are So Loved” message

2) Ralph Lauren Romance, my all time favorite scent

3) New shades, like these trendy Warby Parker frames

4) A tulle skirt if you’re shopping for a girly girl

5) Sparkle is never a bad idea for Valentine’s Day, love this peach necklace

6) A sweet customized journal, it could used for jotting down thoughts, recipes or to-do lists… include a custom love letter of course!

7) Gold & Linen Heart Pillow

8) One of your favorite recent photos in a lovely frame. Photos are one of the most thoughtful gifts, but being a photographer this opinion could be biased. : )

If you happen to follow me on Instagram, you’ll see I did a little too much shopping this week.  I found some cute stuff at Homegoods, Target, TJ Maxx and Bealls Outlet.  I tell myself that it’s ok to buy things from these stores since everything is such a bargain.  Nothing in the first pic was more than $7.99!

So who watches Keeping Up with the Kardashians?  No one?  Yeah, right.  It’s ok, I don’t like to admit it either, but it’s true that I do indeed enjoy it.  I’m not sure what attracts me to the show, but I think part of what keeps it interesting is their family dynamics… and Scott’s hilariousness.

Recently I’ve seen Kourtney & Scott’s house designed by Jeff Andrews pop up all over the place… and just a few short days later after all this buzz was created, they put it on the market.  Smart… veeery smart.  In watching the show I was always curious what the other rooms look like in the house so I was delighted to see that they had it photographed and featured online.  Her style is a little out there but parts of the home are funky cute.  What do you think?

The Pantone color of 2014 is Radiant Orchid… at first I wasn’t as crazy about it as I was for last year’s color, emerald green.  I’ve seen lots of purple weddings as a photographer and it is usually one of my least favorite detail colors.  However, I started thinking how it could be incorporated in a classic way and the solution was to mix in lots of white, green and a wine/burgundy color.  Use it for a garden wedding and this could be the result!
