Painting the Nursery

We painted the baby’s room over the weekend.  When picking out paint, I usually get so impatient and just want to pick a color, get the paint and get started, but I can’t stress enough the importance of getting a few samples to put up on the wall.  You never know exactly how they are going to look, how the light in the room is going to affect the color, etc.  So I made myself pick a few samples and chose my favorite (on the left) — Sherwin Williams Faint Coral (SW6329).

The ridiculous gas mask my husband made me wear because I won’t let him do the cutting in part of the painting, he’s way too sloppy. ;)

Big sis Amelia insisted on helping, which was cute, but also slightly challenging since there was never enough paint on her brush.  I’m just excited that she’s excited about having another little girl around!

Well… I think I decided on a theme for the baby’s room!  I knew I wanted to use black & white, and I thought about mint… but then I had the overwhelming desire to make the room a little girly.  So I chose a peachy pink color for the walls (just finished painting it yesterday I’ll share pics soon).

I’ll be re-using the Jenny Lind crib from Amelia’s nursery, however I took the matching changing table to the studio so I decided to improvise and I’m going to try to use a console table.  Then I can reuse it somewhere else in the house afterward!  I found the vintage dresser at a local consignment shop and love it, despite the drawers being a little hard to use.

So we will see how it all comes together!  : )

So crib bedding… what’s the deal?  How can a set including a bumper, fitted sheet, crib skirt and blanket cost $600?!  I’ve come across a few companies that have 100% adorbs baby bedding, but I would feel 100% guilty spending that much money on bedding that will be used for a matter of months and that is going to be soiled repeatedly.  Shoot I don’t even want to spend $150 on a new King size duvet cover that I know will last for years!  There are less expensive options out there, but they just don’t seem to be as cute.  So for today we’ll just dream a little… if money were no object…

…it might look like this!  The pastels, fresh patterns and soft textures remind me of Easter!  Found these images (by designer Ana Antunes) on my favorite House of Turquoise blog.

So you don’t live on the beach… but you love it, so there’s nothing wrong with bringing a little of the coast into your home!  Using beachy accessories is a good way to keep those breezy reminders around you.  Coastal accessories… faux coral, rustic wood pieces, hurricanes, orchids and of course the color turquoise are all welcome!

I went on a mini shopping spree at TJ Maxx the other day and found a few cute new accessories for the secretary/hutch in our entryway.  Check out the mercury glass pieces and the rustic wood bins, so cute.  This is one of my favorite furniture pieces in my house — the Graham Secetary & Hutch from Pottery Barn.  It’s classic, clean and can be used in so many different places in the house.

I frequently browse floor plan websites… weird hobby I know.  But I love finding the perfect layout and dreaming about the next time we get to build another house.  I came across this cute plan on Southern Living’s website and thought it was nice… it also helps to see photos of the completed (and cutely decorated) interiors.  I can imagine a big group of friends gathering around this huge kitchen island and I’m pretty obsessed with all of the horizontal planked woodwork throughout the house.

Happy New Year, it’s 2013!  That means a brand new year of new ideas, designs, weddings, DIY crafts and more.  A few weeks back Pantone announced the Color of 2013, and it’s Emerald Green Pantone #17-5641.  A little unexpected but welcome… green done right is classic and soothing.  I have a lot of green in my house, not even on purpose so it must be a naturally comfortable color.  It was a little hard finding interiors using green, but I imagine it’ll be a little easier in a few months! : )  Coming soon in the next few days, emerald fashion and emerald wedding details!

Bedroom Storage

Ugh.  My closet is overflowing.  I’d post a photo of it but it’s too embarrassing.  I’ve gone through it and almost everything in there I want to keep sooo the problem is I don’t have enough storage.  I’ve been thinking about replacing our dresser with a wardrobe for some extra hanging space.  I never even use my dresser drawers, it’s full of swim suits and t-shirts, so drawers aren’t as useful as shelves to me.

Armoires are notoriously expensive… so of course I went to Ikea to see their selection.  I think I like these two, the Aspelund & Hemnes… but leaning more toward the first… now when can I make the trip to Ikea, and convince my wonderful husband to assemble it?
