Outdoor Space Needs an Update

This past weekend was absolutely gorgeous… sunny and 75 degrees with a slight breeze.  On Saturday, we made tuna melts and had a lovely lunch outside under our makeshift beach umbrella dining table.  This turned into a brainstorming session on how to make this space cuter.

We’ve toyed with the idea of a pergola/trellis/vine thingy over the pavers, but I just don’t 100% feel it.  It could have to do with our overhangs, or the fact that it would also require upkeep to keep it fresh and pretty, I’m not sure.

The patio furniture was a housewarming gift from my Aunt and looked adorable on our screened porch… however when we enclosed the porch into a sunroom, we moved the furniture to our outdoor patio and it hasn’t fared as well.  I think the only kind of furniture that will survive outdoors in Florida is wrought iron or teak.  I also can’t decide on what types of pieces I want.  I’d like to think I’d sit on couches or lounge chairs all the time but the truth is most of the time when I’m out there, I’m eating a meal.  So I think I’d like a nice large dining table and enough chairs to host cute little al fresco dinner parties from time to time.

We’re hoping these vines take off crawling all over the walls this spring/summer.  It’ll help fill in the empty walls on either side of the single window.  I feel like I need to go on one of those HGTV make over shows because I’m stumped!  Do you think just a furniture update with some cute little planters will cute up the space enough?  Or does it need a complete overhaul?
